Daily Devotions is a
Christian daily devotion and interactive Bible study sponsored by
Internet Outreach Ministry, Inc. to encourage Christians to read
your Bible and learn more about God our Heavenly Father, our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Bible study groups use
these devotions for their Bible study materials. Non-Christians also
benefit from reading these Bible-based Christian devotions so they
can learn what the Bible says about God, Jesus and
Christianity.
Each Morning and Evening devotion is a short
Bible study with scriptures from the Holy Bible compiled according
to a biblical theme, with no anecdotes, commentary or stories to
distract the reader, thus permitting the scriptures to speak for
themselves. The devotions are often sequential, carrying a theme
from morning to morning or evening to evening. Therefore, whether
your daily devotional time is in the morning or in the evening, you
can benefit from these devotions. However, if you can set aside
about fifteen minutes in the morning and in the evening you will
gain the most from these devotional Bible
studies.
Daily Light on the Daily Path
a classic Christian devotional that
has been enjoyed for nearly 200 years by
thousands of Christians worldwide. This work has a rich history
involving four generations of the Bagster family of London, England.
The scriptures for these devotions were originally prepared by a
bookstore owner named Samuel Bagster (1771-1852) for family devotions, and were
later compiled by members of the Bagster
family.
Samuel Bagster was born in England
around the time of the American Revolution. As a child he was
educated by Dr. John Ryland, a Baptist minister. Upon graduation
from school he was apprenticed to a bookseller, and at age 21 he
opened his own bookshop. His goal was to only carry books of
Christian value. His son Jonathan (1813-1872) followed in his father's
footsteps, leading his family in daily Bible studies. He would
select a theme or topic from the Bible, then diligently search the
Bible for related scriptures. (This was before the days of online
Bible search programs or even concordances.) Robert Bagster,
Jonathan's son, recalls the hours and sometimes days of prayer over
each devotion.
Robert Bagster and his daughter Ann compiled
the first "Daily Light on the Daily Path" book, First
published by the American Tract Society in 1875,
this book has gone through many printings throughout the years,
under various titles. It was originally published in the King James
version of the Bible, which we use on this site, but is now
available in most Bible versions. These
materials are considered public domain, which means that
they may be distributed in any format without cost or obligation.
They have been reformatted by Internet Outreach Ministry, Inc. (IOM)
for use on the Daily Devotions website.
Note: If you are not
comfortable with the King James version you should read these
devotions in your own Bible or one of the books listed above.
However, it is wise to be sure you are using a valid translation of
the scriptures and not just someone's interpretation. Some of
the modern interpretations can be helpful for understanding a
difficult passage or concept but should not be your only source for
reading the scriptures.
Internet Outreach Ministry, Inc.
(IOM) sincerely appreciates the mission of the Bagster family to
share these devotions which so enriched their lives. Our mission is
to continue to make these devotions available to as many as
possible, in every way possible. For this reason, Internet Outreach
Ministry, Inc. (IOM) has formatted these devotions for various
online venues which can greatly enhance the benefit that you can
gain from them. You can discuss these devotions with others in "real
time" in our Daily Devotions Chat Room. You can share comments and
read others' comments in our Daily Devotions Forum. You can
subscribe to receive each morning and evening devotional by email
through our Daily Devotions Email Group. You can read them on this
website, or even download these devotions to your own computer for
offline reading at your own convenience.
For those who don't
have a computer or it is not convenient to access the Internet on a
regular basis, these devotions are have been published under such
titles as Daily Light, Daily Light for Daily Living, Daily Light on
the Daily Path, Daily Light from the Bible and a Living Bible
version titled Living Light. (And there may be others.) And now,
